Back to the 80's - 2008/04/19 01:38
One of the local theatres this summer is putting on "Back to the 80's" this summer. I don't know much about the show. I've read what they have on MTI and the show's official website, but that isn't much. (More than you usually find on lesser known shows, though, so I won't complain.) Anyway, as for the questions:
A. Will it be something that my strongly overprotective mother and really conservative father will approve of? I wouldn't audition for one of the "popular" girls, I'd probably go for one of the "nerd" girls or Eileen. Anyone know much about the maturity level? MTI rates it PG, but that could mean anything these days.
B. Should I sing an 80's song or a showtune? I know that generally it is normal to sing a showtune for auditions, but since it's a jukebox musical, I'm not sure. All the website says is registration will begin on April 28, 2008, from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Should I email and ask, or am I correct in assuming that's a little too unprofessional? (Although I've heard this group isn't very professional, but still...)
C. What are the vocal ranges of the characters? I just started voice lessons (I've only had one), and my new teacher says I will be a soprano. My range isn't very wide now though. I usually sing alto in chorus and shows, so I'm sort of confused on this. I think the main thing with alto is that they need strong singers who won't switch over when surrounded by people singing melody.
Well, sorry for so many questions. I tried to be as detailed as I could. If you need more info to answer, just let me know. Thanks in advance!
