CSC Year In Review - 2007/12/29 11:31 We started the Center Stage Club about a year ago in order to help you set new goals for improvement. After a year, how have you grown as a performer? Has the CSC helped you accomplish anything? How are your goals for 2008 different than those for 2007? Reflect on your growth as a performer here! _____________

Re:CSC Year In Review - 2007/12/29 16:55 I have really appreciated this club being in existence. I liked the "activities", such as making an audition binder, organsed by song, etc. I did this, and it has helped me greatly, especially when I walked into an audition and they decided on the spot that they wanted us to do a monologue. Though I always have a monologue or two ready, I had that monologue in my binder and was able to use my time wisely and refresh my memory on it, since I hadn't done it for a few months.

I think I have really grown as a performer (and I've been told as much, as well) over the last year. I completed my first year at a theatre school last June, and since April of 2007, I have gotten callbacks for all but two roles I've auditioned for. It helps that I now know more about the art of auditioning- how to prepare and which roles to go for- but I think I've grown a lot since two Augusts ago.

I've also learned how to make my own opportunities and take advantages of the ones given to me. My theatre teacher sometimes sends us audition notices- we've gotten one for a voice-over, an independant film, and a huge open casting call. I attended all of them- the only one at my school who did. I think I've learned a lot about just taking a chance- even if you don't feel like it. A few weeks ago, I had planned to go to an audition, but the day of, I had a long day at school that included a five-hour rehearsal (this was included in some of the school time). By 4:30, I was exhausted and pretty much just wanted to go home. 'Besides,' I thought to myself. 'They normally only cast homeschoolers- why not just go home and study your lines for tomorrow?' But I decided that I really wanted to be in this, so I went to the audition, had a lot of fun, and, since I got there early, was in the first group and was out half an hour later- no time lost! And the best part is, I got cast! So sometimes taking a chance pays off.

For 2008, my goals are to do something for my performing career every day, be it rehearsing, sending out my headshot and resume, going to voice lessons, or trying to learn to read music. I also want to get a new agent- I really like my agency, but they're quite small and I've not heard anything from them for a really long time. I also want to gain more confidence and learn to read music and play at least beginner piano (got a keyboard for Christmas!)
Auditioning for: Brigadoon, theatre season, American Music Theatre, Into the Woods, Sound of Music, and AMDA.

Re:CSC Year In Review - 2008/05/04 13:25 Well, the audition binder has helped tremendously (Thank you, Kris!!!) and I also feel as though I've grown - particularly as a singer, since I started voice this year as well as choir. My choir teacher says she can really tell a difference. Yeah...not to sound schmaltzy but if it weren't for this site or the club, I wouldn't be as half as good as I am today, and I really wouldn't know half as much. Melchi Gabor, he's such a radical!!!
