Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/08 20:00 I'd tell myself to start taking my career seriously sooner. For some reason it didn't actually occur to me that I would have to try to make this my career until I was out of high school. I'd tell myself to audition for every single part that becomes available and to take as many acting, singing, and dance classes I have time for. I have so little experience and I feel that's one the the things that really hurts me in auditions now. I still get so nervous and my "previous experience" section is always so short.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/08 23:23 Never ever stop trying or growing! When someone gives you harsh criticism, instead of crying about it, use it to make yourself stronger.
Case in point:
My very first show ever was Annie Warbucks. The choreographer chose me to be in the little tap ensemble section, so I was glad of that. But after a while, she told me that I was struggling so much and wasn't getting it, and if I didn't shape up, I would be cut from the number. (Thankfully, I wasn't.) Three years later, the same choreographer saw how much I had improved and let me choreograph a small section of a number! Even crazier, three years after that, I had grown so much that the same choreographer cast me as a lead in CATS, an all dance musical!

So yeah, don't give up, push on, and as someone else mentioned, I wish I hadn't quit dance lessons when I was 10! Dance lessons are a gift later on!

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/09 00:44 Never, ever, insult your director, even if you think you're talking to a friend. Theatre "friends" can be fickle and snitch on you to gain favor.........or just because they think it's right.

Even if you're close, don't do it. It's safer that way.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/09 09:03 If I could give myself advice from the beginning, it would be to not be afraid of disappointment. From the beginning, there were a lot of auditions that I didn't go for because I was scared of failing. In my first show, I was cast in the ensemble and was ecstatic becuase I was one of three freshman to do so. My next year, I was again cast only in the ensemble and was disappointed. I realized that through my let-down I pushed myself harder to try to get a role the next year, which, thankfully, I did.
If only I had realized from the beginning that if I failed or succeeded that I would ultimately, succeed. I would learn from what I did wrong if I did not make it, and if I did, that was enough for me.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/09 19:23 This is a tough one...I guess if I were truly able to give my past performing self some advice, I'd say go all out. Don't hold back, and just have fun! But be serious about it as well. I needed to loosen up. I was worried about how perfect everything had to be. Currently: Melanie, Mary, Pearl, Sophie, Linda, and MiMi (Check, Please)

Upcoming Audition: Little Shop of Horrors (Jan 9, 10, 11)

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/11 18:40 I would tell myself to pick a song earlier than like a week before the audition, so I'll be more confident and stuff.
