Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/03 22:47 Well my latest song that I have learned is Steppin' Out With My Baby from Irving Berlin's Easter Day Parade. Its a fantastic standard and it is a little different for me. However, My best piece which will probably stay top in my audition material for years to come is Empty Chairs at Empty Tables from Les Miserables. J Chris

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/08 16:33 The last song I added to my song repertoire is 'L'amour heureux'. It's from the french musical 'Roméo et Juliette'. Since I'm french, it was much more easier for me to sing it.

It was great because it fitted the inocence that I was trying to create while auditionning for Bye Bye Birdie. It was Juliette singing how she was in love for the first time. I must say, it was a real success and I sure would use it again at an other audition because it's very rare that you hear it and most of the audition panel in my area don't speak french. So, before I sing it, I explain what she is saying, her feelings and such, so they know her situation, and they can see if I can act through that song because they don't understand the words.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/08 20:10 The last show I was in was "Once Upon a Mattress." For females, I'd recommend Happily Ever After. It's a song sung by Fred. It's so funny and it gives so much opportunity to act as well as sing. It's also not to high and not too low, so pretty much anyone can sing it. For males, I really liked "Man to Man Talk." sung by Dauntless. Once again, it's so funny & is great for acting. "Very Soft Shoes" bung by the Jester is also a great song for either a tenor or soprano. The Jester is generally played by a man, but the song doesn't allude to gender & is so sweet.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/08 23:14 I was in a Jazz Revue over the summer at a Theme Park and one of my favorite songs that my friend sang was Cole Porter's "Let's Do It, Let's Fall In Love". It's pretty long with tons of verses, so you can cut it however you like, whichever are your fav lyrics. It's a pretty surprising song and I had never heard it before. It lends itself very well to a good peice, if you know what to do with it. It was a showstopper everytime!
Another song from the show, that I didn't get to sing, was "All The Things You Are". But I loved it so much I found the song in a higher key and added it to my repertoire. It's originally from the show 'Very Warm For May" and it's a great soprano song, but in a lower key, it's a fantastic super low alto song. It's very versatile. So these are good if you need Jazz Standards.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/09 19:22 Part 1
The most recent song I have added to my audition repertoire is Somewhere That's Green from Little Shop. It's not crazily over-done, and it was just perfect for my audition (in which we were asked to sing songs from the play). I'm thinking I may just use it again someday! It's so awesome! And being an easterner, well...originally...I nailed the accent. =D

Part 2
The most recent musical I performed in was Disney's High School Musical. Yet, I would not recommend performing any of the songs until the buzz has died down. When it does, eventually, disappear, I would recommend the songs "When There Was Me and You" (this version is MUCH better than the movie) and, for the guys, the solo section in "Getch'a Head in the Game" (sorry if I misplaced the apostraphe!).
Currently: Melanie, Mary, Pearl, Sophie, Linda, and MiMi (Check, Please)

Upcoming Audition: Little Shop of Horrors (Jan 9, 10, 11)

"All the world's a stage."

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/11 18:37 Defying Gravity, is the song I sang for my last audition (yes I know Wicked is way over done) It would have been affective if I wasn't in Into the Woods at the same time. My drama teacher said I could be a fish in it, since she knew I was busy with Into the Woods Jr. anyhoo...

This is basically the first musical I've been in...oh I'm in Into the Woods Jr. and A Pirate's Life for Me. And the best song from Into the Woods is Children will Listen
