Well I've been having lessons for a year and heading for Grade 5 musical theatre (London College of Music). I find I've improved dramatically thanks to my teacher; I still have some major problems though, but a lot better than it was!
I think the best thing is to find a teacher who is an all-rounder. Like someone who maybe has a bit of a grounding in classical as well as musical theatre, as it means they are quite open-minded and can pluck the best from a load of different techniques. Although Musical Theatre and Classical are quite different, things like tone production and control, projection etc are quite similar and everyone has different strengths and weaknesses.
