Wicked/ Music Man - 2007/01/18 20:22 BIG NEWS!!!

For spring break this year (3 months from now), I'm going to chicago to see WICKED!!!!! I'm so excited, but my brother is really mad because he's one of those people that think musicals are for gay guys. hate him for that. we're seeing a matinee show on Easter sunday.

And this made me REALLY mad......

As you probably know, my middle school is doing The Music Man. But I just now heard that a public highschool (a highschool that half my middle school branches off to, including me) IS DOING THE SAME SHOW. And the students there are really good. Now no one's going to come see us, because our show and the highschool show are usually sometime the same month. But I feel so bad, some of our cast is really good.

Re:Wicked/ Music Man - 2007/01/19 01:52 Aww, man, I'm so sorry about your show! Have faith, though, that your show will do well. I'm sure it will! Isn't a general no-no for local schools to not check around and duplicate shows?

Juliet, that's awesome! I'll be rushing as many shows as possible when the tour comes to Baltimore. You'll have to let us know how it is. I'm curious how this Elphie and Glinda will be; as far as I know, they haven't done any other major Wicked productions.

Re:Wicked/ Music Man - 2007/01/19 03:20 I saw Wicked on Broadway. It was pretty sweet.

The schools in the county that my old high school is in are actually required to check around and know what everyone else was doing. If a school did a particular show this year, no other school can do it until the 2008-2009 school year. The only thing I can tell you is to be positive. Even though you're worried about no one coming to see the show, remember that you have friends and family who love you very much and will be there to support you, high school show or not.
sweet Alyssa!

Re:Wicked/ Music Man - 2007/01/21 14:20 Thanks for moving this Kris (or Shelby)

But it's really weird, the directors from that highschool replaced our middle school's dirctors for our callbacks. They chose the parts, because they supposedly know more. So they knew what show we're doing.

Re:Wicked/ Music Man - 2007/01/21 19:19 that's so weird that the middle and high school is doing the same show. that stinks!!!!

my middle school didn't do a show and it still doesn't. there was never enough money and of course, the arts always got the first cuts from the budget. but i work in a fairly wealthy district that is about the same size as my hometown schools. it has two middle schools and a high school, all of which do both dramas and musicals. they have to check w/ each other to make sure there are no "duplicates". the one ms is doing grease and the other is doing hello, dolly! i am not sure what the high school is doing. last year they did JCS, the year before was plain and fancy, before that was evita, and before that was children of eden... they put on some pretty big shows and always win rising star awards.....

in local community theatre, there is a lot of "copying" of seasons, but shows usually don't happen at the same time. example, last season was a big urinetown, rocky horror show, aida, and the full monty season. several companies would do the shows with only one week overlapping if any. it happens almost every season that there is at least one show each theatre is doing at almost the same time. this year's pick seams to be high school musical..... *groan*
They call me Jessica (like: They call me lady luck... lol)

Favorite roles:

Eva Peron, Evita; Jack's Mother, Into the Woods; Sonia, Godspell; Anything Goes, Reno Sweeney; Audrey, Little Shop of Horrors; Catherine, Pippin

Nope, Bekki's the mastermind behind that! I'm only the mod behind the Welcome boards.
