switch schools? - 2008/01/14 16:29Hi. I'm just a bit stuck. I go to an okay highschool, but it has a very good drama program. And that's important for the career i want, haha. But lately, i've been wanting to transfer to a Performing Arts school near by. Here's why: All I really love doing is singing, dancing, and being with my friends. The past year, my friends havent been treating me so great.
at first, it was an off and on thing, they would occasionally talk to me and joke and stuff, then they would ignore me for a while. Over the summer, I had only seen my friends 3 times, and i constantly told them how we should get together. those 3 times were the last times i'd been with them outside of school, even now. now this school year, they are almost completely ignoring me, and its kiiling me.
at first i thought i could just concentate on my singing and dancing and forget about them, but now i cant concentrate on anything. i feel really alone. there's no way i can make different friends, the "friends" i have now are the only people at school who would care at least a little about me. so i found auditions for a performing arts highschool in my city, and i was curious.
but what i'm worried about is that i'll miss my highschool too much, and even my friends. i know they don't treat me like one, but i cant help loving them to death, they are hilarious and talented, and i sometimes have the feeling they might let me join the group again. and again, our drama dept. is very good, but i just need to get away for a while or something. and please don't think i came here just to vent, this has been going on for a while, and i need some advice. thanks!

Re:switch schools? - 2008/01/14 17:11I was/am in a similar situation. In 7th grade i had to make the decision to be home school or go to middle school and then go to this Public High School with a GREAT theatre program. I decided to be homeschooled, i am glad i did. Outside of Public School you have more time to focus on the things you love and grow and develop more in theatre. Anyways i would go to the performing arts school because personally i believe anything is better than public school, you will make new friends ( who hopefully are better than ur current "friends"), and have more time to do theatre. And even though next year i won't go to the High School with the great theatre program, i have something better, i am part of a great theatre company (that i was in when i went to public school also) and i get to practice theatre even more and i found i have progress so much in theatre than i did when i went to public school!!!! I was worried i would miss school too but I DON'T!!! You have nothing to lose! Anyways to sum it up I would suggest going to the Performing arts school because: You will find better friends and get sooooooo much better at theatre!!!!!! Hope this helps!!!!!!!!

Re:switch schools? - 2008/01/15 08:47As I read your post, my thoughts are drawn to several quotes, such as "no matter where you go, there you are", and "bloom where you are planted", but ultimately, you have to do what is best for you. I would thing that no matter what decision you made that, within a certain period of time, you could "undo" it. I mean, it is not like you are comtemplating taking a one-way trip to the Moon, or anything.
Talk to some of your advisors and counselors at your school. You may even want to see if you can visit the new place and sit in on classes for a day.
Take one thing with you: no matter how bad you feel, you will feel better soon. Our job as people is to get as happy as we can as fast as we can and to stay that way.
Good luck,
Jamey

I completely agree. I wish there was a PA high school in my area, I'd switch in immediately.-Ali
