Re:Shows you couldn't be in - 2008/01/04 16:08
Middle aged? I wasn't really planning on living to 112!
I have done Sowerberry (and got to SING in my first ever acting experience; that was weird!).
I do know what you mean, though. When I did Oz, the Witch and I were talking and I told her I played Sowerberry and the Wizard, and she said "Man, you get great parts". My answer was "that is due in large part to the fact that there weren't that many 50 year old men at the audition".
Thanks for being there
Jamey
<<In my area, being middle aged is a great asset! The majority of people auditioning for shows are in their 20s or 30s, so the competition is not as great.
There are so many great roles for older people. In addition to the ones you mentioned, think about Lazar Wolf or Tevye in "Fiddler," Scrooge or Marley in "A Christmas Carol," Don Quixote or the Padre in "Man of LaMancha," Mr. Sowerberry, Mr. Bumble, or Fagin in "Oliver!," Father or Grandfather in "Ragtime," or Belle's father, Maurice in "Beauty and the Beast."
Keep looking, those roles are out there!>>
