Re:for the love of theatre - 2007/11/22 22:25 I've given up attending family events- such as birthday parties for my small nieces, other parties- bridal showers, batchelorette parties, & just because parties.

I stay away from going out to karaoke (because of the smoking and poor singing habits when I sing pop/rock songs).

The biggest thing I've given up, until recently anyway, is trying to start a family because I couldn't be pregnant and play most roles.

Re:for the love of theatre - 2007/11/23 14:02 I have missed a LOT of family birthday parties because of shows. I'm missing my cousin's college graduation for my dance recital.

I think the main thing I missed was last year, my first year at theatre school, I really missed regular-friend time. Since I was at theatre school in the morning, I missed all the before-homeroom talk, and therefore, invitations to parties, hang out time on half days, etc. People just forgot about me. This year, though, I've moved to the advanced theatre class and so have it in the afternoon. Everything is so much better. But I was pretty lonely last year.

I quit synchronized swimming for acting... though that was just kind of a better reason than the real one- I'd started to hate it.

I just wish there were more hours in the day when I could do a million things at once.

Re:for the love of theatre - 2007/11/23 23:39 I had to give up piano too. Sometimes I still wish I could play, i love the sound of the piano wow I sound cool.

I also had to quit soccer. But I didn't really like it anyway, I was never good at it, my fellow teammates didn't really like me, so they never passed me the ball or practiced with me but now i have a few friends in dance and drama so its all good.

Re:for the love of theatre - 2007/11/24 02:40 I've been doing CT for about six years now. I got into it at the urging of my husband while we were dating. Little did he know that it would start to dominate my life!

Some of the things I've had to give up just happen to be because of bad timing. I'll have nothing going on and then it seems like everything happens at once. Or the audition for the show I've been dying to do happens to coincide with something else- sometimes it's another rehearsal, which is why I missed out on a chance to audition for BATB

oh, I almost forgot, I also give up rock climbing while I'm doing a show. At least bouldering anyway. As long as I'm tied in I'm good to go!

Annie~ it's so funny that you gave up soccer for theatre. In high school I gave up theatre for soccer! Mainly because my director was unfair and you had to kiss her butt to get any roles. Instead I played soccer in the fall and did tech in the spring.

^That's how it is at my school- and since I refuse to worship our director, as mostly everyone else does (they applaud when he enters a room- come on, now.) Plus, he's incredibly abusive (verbally) and I don't understand why people like him so much. I thought I might get bigger roles this year because he suddenly started being nice to me, but nope- I got a walk-on in the school play and no role in the musical that was cast recently. But it's oay- after he rejected me the first time, I went to a bigger theatre and got a big role.

Re:for the love of theatre - 2007/11/24 21:11 I didn't even try to kiss up. First of all I don't believe in it, I want to know that I earned the role based soley on my singing and acting talent, not my ability to kiss up. Second of all, she was rude and impatient. Plus she ran the school's morning news show and if you weren't a guy and you didn't do that or the fall play you could kiss the spring musical goodbye, except for the chorus. When I did the spot light for the shows I was showered with praise and I only had to put up with her yelling at the cast for three weeks a year. ~Annie

Re:for the love of theatre - 2007/11/24 22:06 I've given up a lot of things...just recently, any semblance of a social life with my friends because of rehearsals. But going downtown to hang out afterwards with theatre friends makes up for it! -Ali

Re:for the love of theatre - 2007/11/26 16:07 I thought of one more thing I've given up- this year'll be the third year I've done it; I've given up celebrating my birhtday on the actual day. To me, this is fantastic- I love spending my birthday on the stage. My friends think I'm nuts, though, especially when they get invited to my birthday party in March when my actual birthday is in January. Yeah I'm doing a show on my birthday too. But, I'm missing school for it so I don't mind!
