Non-Theatre Related But URGENT If you use LimeWire - 2007/11/26 13:14 OK everyone...
My computer a few months ago began acting incredibly slow...then I was getting popups asking me to allow programs to the internet. Figuring they were harmless, I did. Two weeks ago, I had a friend's dad (who's a computer GENIUS) check it out. It turns out I have a Trojan Horse on my computer. After a little research, I figured out what program caused the Trojan. You guessed it, LimeWire! I promise you, this is real. Check out this article for more details.

I'd suggest removing LimeWire from your computer immediately.
Melchi Gabor, he's such a radical!!!

Re:Non-Theatre Related But URGENT If you use LimeW - 2007/11/26 14:55 There are TONNES of evil things on Limewire, that try to mask themselves as what you searched for. You need to look at all of the file information before downloading anything. File size is a big giveaway, file type (if it's not an audio file, don't download it)... if something comes up EXACTLY as you typed it into the search (ex: if I search "la mancha thinking of him" and I get a file that comes up exactly like that, instead of "Man of La Mancha - I'm Only Thinking of Him.mp3", it's a virus or spyware or something).

P2P programs are a great way for people with bad intent to harm your computer. Don't use them unless you are computer literate enough to recognize what is harmful and what isn't. (I had to give this speech to my classmates using my laptop to find music for themselves for our fashion show).

Also, always have a virus and spyware scanner running. There is a lot of free software you can get and if you get something really bad, it will let you know right away and get rid of it.
