Re:Scariest thing that's happened to you onstage? - 2007/10/21 22:32 I know that I'm joining this thread late but I've got some good ones!

1. Ragtime - I played "the girl in the red velvet swing" and while I had worked with the technicians with the swing before, during the first onstage run using the swing the techie was a bit 'preoccupied' . The swing started on the ground level then was hoisted up after I sat on it as planned. But since the techie had started to pay attention to something else, I continued to go up up up past the planned height of about 12 feet or so all the way up and into the lights (I'd say 40-50 feet). Everyone below me was screaming and it was really just pretty darned scary.

2. Beauty and the Beast - I suppose any time a show uses pyrotechnics there is a possibility for trouble. One of my roles was as the Enchantress who turns the prince into the beast at the beginning of the show. I had a fireball which I "threw" (shot) at the prince as part of the transformation illusion. At the front of the run the cast were told not to stand in certain "danger zones" backstage as they awaited their entrance for the opening number. Midway thru the run it became clear that there was no way the fireball would come anywhere near the designated zone and as you would expect, cast members started to creep into it more and more each night.
SO one night - when the fireball was especially well-juiced and the beast had decided it would be easier to make his quick entrance from a danger zone - the fire came out of my hand, flew clear across the stage and into the wings on the opposite side where it hit the beast directly onto his furry nether regions. I froze on stage as I watched him extinguish the small fire with his cape, then I proceeded to slink off the stage and hope for the best. Luckily our costumes had been sprayed with flame retardant. Listen to your techies, kids! (And don't play with fire )

Re:Scariest thing that's happened to you onstage? - 2007/10/27 13:24 This has to do with the incident I posted above: On opening night, the guy who takes me offstage in a firemans carry (who now has his brace off, thank goodness) had glitter in his hands. This was to cast a 'spell' on my to make me faint, but this was the first time he'd had glitter and it got in my eyes, nose and mouth. As soon as I got offstage, I sprinted towards the green room and fished the glitter out of my eyes- ouch! It was that really big kind of glitter, too.

Last night, I fell a little too heavily onto his shoulder and he sort of grunted in my ear, which made me laugh. I tried so hard not to, but right before we got offstage, I accidentally snorted....we were both laughing when he set me down offstage. That was the performance they were videotaping, too!

Re:Scariest thing that's happened to you onstage? - 2007/10/29 20:28 I...Kinda...Umm... Fell off ^-^;;; We had multiple platforms, and i was climbing up to the tallest one, and the tech guy turned the lights on to early. I paniced and lost my footing, and... well... fell. I climbed back up and continued though. Current Roles: Louisa- The Sound of Music
