That's probably one reason they did it then. If you strike when everyone is off for Thanksgiving, and it affects the masses of people on vacation, then it makes much more of an impact and people sit up and listen to you.

The Greyhound drivers went on strike on this past May Long Weekend here in Canada. A lot of people were inconvenienced who were going out of town. It helped the drivers get their point across much quicker.
