uptempo song for a mezzo? - 2008/04/17 23:44
hi. yeaaa, my teacher yesterday told us we were gonna have a master class next monday and we'd need some songs and monologues to bring to class. I'm guessing I'm gonna need an uptempo song for it since most of my audition songs (or songs i've learned from shows I've been) are on the ballad side.
I'm ok with finding monologue material on my own, but I have no idea what I should bring for an uptempo song! It's important that I have a good song cause the people that are coming are quite important themselves, so I want to be able to impress them if I have to sing. I really wouldn't post this so last minute, but we didn't find out that we were having guest artists until yesterday!
So about my voice. I'm a mezzo who loves singing both mezzo and alto (1st Soprano is possible for me to sing, but usually a NO-NO; I HATE IT!). My audition song I use A LOT is "Stranger to the Rain" from Children of Eden, usually sung transposed to a half step lower or in the original key. So I'm a belter, but not like super high or anything...I'm waiting for a vocal teacher to help me with the higher notes (i have it, but am just scared to use it for fear of killing my voice). As for my head voice, I can sing up to B5, but am most comfortable up to A5. O and my break (around G4-A#4) is a tad bit weak if it's in head voice.
