Re:Acting and Singing Quirks! - 2008/02/21 09:30Oo I completely forgot! I ALWAYS stay in my accent! We're doing Steel Magnolias right now and everyday after rehearsal i'm still stuck in my accent! All of us girls do it too. Even if we're not in rehearsal, we'll talk to eachother like that. It gets embarassing sometimes."If life seems jolly rotten, there's something you've forgotten. And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing"
Currently: Nothing! So sad..

Re:Acting and Singing Quirks! - 2008/02/25 11:50I'm sure there's many more, but the first that comes to mind is that I'm pretty good about memorizing lines- except the ones that cut people off. And those are the worst ones to forget. Haha.- Caitlin / Cait -

Re:Acting and Singing Quirks! - 2008/02/26 22:07I definitely have the "eyebrows problem!" They are all over the place... I can also move only one at a time (yes I am one of those weird people that does that) and when I play crazy over-the-top characters (especially in speech) they go crazy and one always goes up! I also have a somewhat deeper voice when I am acting... I think it comes from me trying to be louder. Ive been taught so many times how to project, but it seems I am never loud enough! I'm sure theres more. Ill keep thinking.~Lauren~ Current: Ensemble in Joseph and Technicolor Dreamcoat Most Recent Roles: Silly Girl / Fork in Beauty and the Beast and Emily/Ensemble in Once Upon a Mattress Speech ( = life): Humorous Interpretation, Prose, PIR

Re:Acting and Singing Quirks! - 2008/02/26 22:34There's always one line in a show that I can't get. Its always a two or three sentence line, I never have troubles with the monologues or short lines. weird.
that reminds me we're off book tomorrow...gotta go!-Ali

Re:Acting and Singing Quirks! - 2008/02/26 22:39I definitely change my voice when I'm acting! I think a lot of people do this, though. A lot of the time, our drama teacher will tell a certain person in my class not to "act", just to say that line, and the person will speak, and she'll be like, "Don't use your character's name voice, use yours."
I also think I do this because it makes me forget about how my voice sounds. When I do stuff where I'm talking for long periods of time, uninterrupted, in real life, I start to notice my voice and how weird it sounds. But I've never worried about that onstage because it's not my voice.Auditioning for: Brigadoon, theatre season, American Music Theatre, Into the Woods, Sound of Music, and AMDA.

Re:Acting and Singing Quirks! - 2008/02/27 06:35Ooh yes, I do always change my voice when I'm acting. I do it to project more, becuase my natural speaking voice is pretty quiet, but also because i hate my natural speaking voice but don't mind the acting voice I've developed. I suppose there's a balance in there somewhere, I just haven't found it yet...- Caitlin / Cait -

I've found I have a similar problem- when I do Southern and French, if I don't stay completely focused, I'll slip into an English accent, because I've known how to do for a longer period of time.
That reminds me of when I was in Dancing at Lughnasa, the cast had to use Scottish accents. But eventually, the accents started sounding Chinese and Spanish.... it was hilarious at the time *´¨) ¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨) (¸.•´ (¸.•´ Annie

Re:Acting and Singing Quirks! - 2008/02/28 13:57I also LOVE to talk and sing with my hands. too much. Because that is what I naturally do, but it looks awkward on stage, like I dont know what to do with myself, when that is how I am...
grrr... habits habits. Easy to form, EVIL to break!
Oh my god, me too. I can't even talk without making some gestures. If I'm not moving my hands I find it impossible to form coherent thoughts. My dad makes fun of me all the time. The only sure fire way to shut my rambling up at times is to make me sit on my hands.

Re:Acting and Singing Quirks! - 2008/02/29 14:12When I get nervous when I'm singing, I REALLY overdo the song! I was singing a pretty simple song from Camelot a couple of weeks ago, and it ended up coming out like a flipping aria the way I did it; that's how nervous I was. Funny how I never get nervous with anything else, just singing.
Aside from that, I'm not sure I have any "quirks" lol.

Re:Acting and Singing Quirks! - 2008/03/01 22:56haha im like queen of the quirks, heres a few: i get wayyy to caught up in simple stuff and look way to melodramatic in singing and acting i over analyze stuff A LOT (how to say lines, etc.) i think im black for a moment, try to sing like i am, then when i realize i cant belt for a long time i realize i am so not hahha when im singing in the spotlight i do this weird dramatic thing where i tilt my face up and look sad, like im on AI or something :{D~Kayla~ Current shows:none :[[[ Upcoming: NONE Recently: Robin Hood, Treasure Island, My Kind of Town

Re:Acting and Singing Quirks! - 2008/03/04 20:44When singing I always tap my leg to the beat. My choir teacher and my voice teacher are trying to teach me how to to tap one finger subtlely instead. This is a dance quirk, but when I'm dancing lyrical I close my eyes on the really emotional parts. Oh and I also talk with my hands a lot.I am Hannah! upcoming auditions: You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Peter Pan Favorite roles: Daughter in Pirates of Penzance, Mrs. Potiphar in Joseph and The Amazing...., Hot Box Girl in Guys and Dolls

I do this allllll the time, especially if I'm just, like, singing in front of a class or something and there's big music break where I don't sing. It comes from years of tapping my foot in orchestra. When I'm at voice lessons, I always have a pencil and I will tap my music with it... which I'm sure gets really annoying.Auditioning for: Brigadoon, theatre season, American Music Theatre, Into the Woods, Sound of Music, and AMDA.

Re:Acting and Singing Quirks! - 2008/03/05 16:50when I'm dancing to a really slow song onstage, I get this pensive look on my face and the choreographer and director are always shrieking at me to smile. Yesterday, my note was: 'smile, ali, smile! We put you in the front because you're good, now don't ruin it for me. The people come to the show to be happy, not stare at your mournful face!' It's terrible. I can't smile exclusively anyway, my face gets really expressive especially in fast numbers.-Ali
