any ideas? - 2008/03/10 23:03 i'm a soprano one and i can have a strong or airy voice on the high notes (basically the C above middle C and higher)...i have a fair range, and i can hit the notes in my mix and chest voice, but not very loudly...my voice teacher and i have been trying to make my voice stronger but none of her exercises work...does anyone have any advice on how to make my voice stronger or maybe even belt?

Re:any ideas? - 2008/03/10 23:09 i have the same problem, this is how i made my voice stronger...

do some sort of breathing exercise often, drink lots of water, make sure you eat healthy and well balanced meals, get plenty of sleep and this one might be the strangest.... running! it helps alot with your breathing

try it and see how it feels.. it might work for you too

Re:any ideas? - 2008/03/11 14:41 You don't say how old you are. I will assume you are in High School. The most important thing in learning to sing is to learn to sing correctly. You want the best technique. Your technique will keep you from hurting yourself. Don't do anything that will damage your voice. You don't want to develop nodes! At this time, learn to sing properly in any voice - Soprano or belt or mix - make sure you are doing it correctly and not straining.

If you are young, in your teen years, your problem about getting stronger just might be in your maturity. Did you know that a singing voice does not fully mature until you reach your 30's!!!!!!!!!! It might just be in your genes. Just like some people grow faster than others - the same goes for your voice. Don't worry about your strength so much as your technique. As you grow older, you should get stronger and more ability to increase your range.

Also, you do not mention how long you have been training. Consistent training over a long period of time will show results. However, if you have only taken voice lessons for 6 months, well, maybe that hasn't been enough time for you. Voice lessons can take years! In other people, it might not take so long - it is all about what you were born with. Practice everyday. Take a voice lesson every week. Don't be the kind of student who takes lessons here and there. You won't get anywhere that way. A good dancer goes to class at least 3 or more times a week. A voice student needs to train weekly. Then ---- Practice, Practice, Practice!!!!!!!

Re:any ideas? - 2008/03/12 00:21 thanks guys! im going to try all that stuff
all the things you said make sense (im only 16 and very asthmatic) so the breathing exercises and running will probably help a lot
thanks again!

Re:any ideas? - 2008/03/12 20:18 Along with the breathing, one thing I did when I was thing to strengthen my voice (head tone specifically) was to sing in head tone when I would sing in the car and shower instead of in chest tone, even if it was low. And it sounded really bad at first but after a while I stopped hearing such a big difference between my chest and head tone. It's especially good if you're really pressed for time like me!
