FairyTale-ish Monologues? - 2006/11/19 21:58 Does anyone know of any fairy tale-ish monologues other than the Stepsister one? I really like the stepsister one, but I think it will be commonly used. I really want to be cast in this production, so I want to start preparing now.

The big problem is that I'm horrible at monologues. I just can't do with monologues what I can do with reads from the script. Any advice on that?
Auditioning for: Brigadoon, theatre season, American Music Theatre, Into the Woods, Sound of Music, and AMDA.

Re:FairyTale-ish Monologues? - 2006/11/20 16:28 Does it have to be from a musical? Because there surely is something from «A Midsummer Night's Dream» that could fit. I haven't read the play in a long time, though, so I couldn't point out a specific part, but you've got the whole play there:

The advice I always received when doing a monologue is to take your time. Some people (like me!) want to arrive at the end as quick as possible and forget the intention. Just take your time to tell the story. Unfortunately I have nothing better to say.

- Fraülein Kost/Officer/A Lady/German Singer in Cabaret (December)
(That's what happens when you put on a production with only 10 people in the cast)
- Rehearsing for a Sondheim Tribute (October 1st)

Re:FairyTale-ish Monologues? - 2006/11/22 03:08 No, it doesn't have to be from a musical. I don't know that it is a musical, I think it's a play. It's called Once Upn a Forest based on a Brother's Grimm tale.

A Midsummer Night's Dream is my personal favorite of Shakespeare's plays, however, the audition is for a kids' theatre company and I don't think they'd want me to do Shakespeare. People in my area in general beg you to avoid Shakespeare.
