singing a song from the show - 2008/05/03 15:51 Hi! I'm auditioning for Peter in Peter Pan, and I was thinking of singing part of the song: Never Never Land.

Is it a good idea to sing a song from the show?

I was also thinking about singing A cock-eyed optimist from South Pacific. Which do you think I should choose? Current Show: Spitfire Grill
Last Show: Laramie Project
Next Show: Peter Pan

Re:singing a song from the show - 2008/05/03 17:09 From past experiences (not mine, but my best friend's) I see no problem with singing a song for audition from the show. It helps the people casting you see how you'll fit in the part. Break a leg no matter what you decide to do! Current Role: Louise Lerman/Eve (Judy's Assistant) in "Ruthless!" by Marvin Laird.
Recently: Lala Levy in "The Last Night of Ballyhoo" by Alfred Uhry.

Re:singing a song from the show - 2008/05/03 18:53 It really just depends on the director, because at my last audition, they said it was okay to sing a song from the show, so i did and when the audition panel asked me what song i was singing and i told them they actually looked relieved and glad. (partly because the two people who went before me sang christmas songs

) Anyways, if you have a great voice and you are perfect for the role, it won't matter what song you sing (but just don't sing a christmas song, please

) !

(I definitely will not sing a Christmas song. For now I'm going to sing both songs and see which one I want to do.) I'll keep you guys updated on tryouts!

Re:singing a song from the show - 2008/05/04 19:07 In my opinion, and from what I've heard in past theatre classes and such... the thing that's bad about singing a song from the show, is that sometimes then the director can't see you in any other role except that character that you're singing as. My advise would be to sing a song that's similar in range and style to the songs of the character that you want and then at callbacks they'll probably have you sing songs from the show. music myspace:
