Belle in BatB - 2008/04/26 18:36 So- the local children's theatre is opening their 08-09 season with Beauty and the Beast. This theatre is really worthless- they play ridiculous favorites, and their favorites aren't even good. I've had some really bad experiences there, so I want to go in and have a "burn-the-bridge" audition. I want to go in and sing a song from the show, just to throw it in their faces.

I know that sounds bad, but believe me, it's well-warranted.

So- I know most of Belle's songs, but I'm rather unsure of when Belle is expected to belt. (Belting is my weakness- I mix well, but my belt doesn't go past a C comfortably) I want to work on my belting over the summer, so I need a bit of direction- what should I focus on? How high is Belle expected to belt?

This is a smaller community children's theatre, so their pool of people is pathetic. But I've never gotten a callback. (Where I have got call backs from the good community theatre in town) So I'm going in more to make a statement than anything else.

Which song do you think I can sing? (They expect about a minute length) Can anyone think of a monologue? And how much is Belle supposed to belt?

Thanks!
Kris

Re:Belle in BatB - 2008/04/27 11:30 I agree she doesnt have to, but it's seems to be preferred,
In a "Change in Me" she only belts up to a C so that would be a perfect fit.

The highest she belts which is actually more mix than anything, is in Home.
She mixes up to a E natural I believe. Since belting is a very long grueling process of learning to do correctly I would suggest a change in me.

That's what I love to hear! So it's really more of a pop-disney-mix role, then? That's definitely something i can do!

Personally I like A Change in Me much better in a mix than a belt. A full out belt totally betrays the role of Belle in my opinion.

Re:Belle in BatB - 2008/04/27 22:46 To me, Belle sounds more like a mix. Do the song in your best way. Whatever makes you sound and perform the best.
