Auditioning for local musical - 2008/05/16 10:52 I am auditioning for a local musical and this will be my first audition ever. The show's producer approached me when I was singing karaoke. I know it's crazy. I'd love to do it but I have no idea how to prepare for it. I need suggestions for a 2 minute comedic monologue and I need 16 bars of an up tempo pop song. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The song won't be done with sheet music (they asked us to bring CD accompaniment). I did a few musicals in high school but never had a major role. The musical I am auditioning for is an original written by the production company. 1920's mobster type involving prohibition. Character hates men. I also have no idea how to create a resume for this. Help, help, help!

Re:Auditioning for local musical - 2008/05/16 13:10 Wow, really new. Welcome!!!

Get a recording of your best song from Karaoke. Make sure you know it by heart. Bring it to the audition. Maybe the song the director heard you sing before.

For the monologue, you will have to research at your local public or school library. If that doesn't work, go to the bookstore and look in the "Theatre" section. There are books of monologues that you can do, or if you have a favorite play with characters something like you that you know of. Since the show is original, it's hard to give you anything specific. Make it something that you would be comfortable with. Nothing that is too much of a character, just something where you can show a little spunk and be basically yourself.

For a resume, you can list anything you've done in school that was performing in nature. Choirs, solos, plays. Check on this site for how to arrange your resume. The topic has been talked about many times.

Break-A-Leg and have fun!

Re:Auditioning for local musical - 2008/05/18 13:27 As far as your monologue goes, trying googling "momologues + female". You may find more than you can shake a stick at. One more thing, make sure this guy is on the level. Approaching a woman doing Karoke and saying "I have a part for you in my show" COULD be on the up and up or it COULD be a great pick-up line!

Re:Auditioning for local musical - 2008/05/31 21:32 There's a funny two minute monolouge I performed once. It's called "The VFW Dance/More Fun Than Bowling." It has some man-hating parts in it and I really thought it was funny.
