Annie National Tour Review |

Last night I saw the National Tour cast of "Annie" at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis, Missouri. It was amazing! The show starred David Barton as Oliver Warbucks and Amanda Balon in the title role.
The opening scene with the orphans was great. I've heard once that you either win or lose your audience with 'Hard-Knock Life'. They definitely won their audience with it. I instantly fell in love with Annalisa DiBernardo as Molly. She was adorable. She played the role with just enough cuteness for it to seem real. I can't see how many Molly's I've seen who tried too hard to be cute and totally lost me. Madison Zavitz as Pepper was great too, as was Marina Rose Macherone as Duffy, Grace Elizabeth Etzkorn as Kate, and Sunny Naughton as July. The only one I really had a hard time with was Abby Spare as Tessie. I couldn't understand half of what she said. I know she's supposed to be the 'cry-baby orphan', but you can whine and cry and still be understood. I also noticed that she was a step behind the other orphans while dancing to "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile".
I could tell from the minute that Lynn Andrews came on stage as Miss Hannigan that she was amazing. By far the best Hannigan I've ever seen. She played the role with an awesome sense of humor. She had just the right amount of sarcasm. I loved her throughout the entire show.

Young Frankenstein Review |
|
Written by Sarah
|

The New Mel Brooks Musical, Young Frankenstein (to use the full title) was amazing! But first, I'll start off with an overview of the plot and go from there.
Dr. Frankenstein (who created the original Frankenstein's Monster) has died, and his only living descendant is his grand son, Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (that's FRONK-en-steen!). Frederick is a celebrated professor of the brain, and, despite his parentage, insists that he is only interested in it because of its complexities, and not because he may one day make another monster like his grandfather.
Frederick receives a letter from the lawyer that handles his grandfather's estate that tells him that he has inherited his grandfather's castle/mansion in Transylvania heights. Frederick accepts the house and travels to Transylvania in order to get all other affairs involving his grandfather's estate in order. Upon arrival, Frederick meets Igor (it's EYE-gor!), who is the grandson of the late laboratory assistant to Dr. Victor von Frankenstein, Inga, a country wench whom Frederick hires to be his personal assistant in Transylvania, and Frau Blucher (*horse whinnying*), the housekeeper and ex-girlfriend to Dr. Victor von Frankenstein.

Last week, I went on one of my Amazon runs, where I buy used copies of new Broadway shows. And this show caught my eye and I am SO GLAD I ordered the CD. The premise of this show is relatively simple. It's a musical about two guys writing a musical about two guys writing a musical.
