- This contest is for previously unrecorded vocalists only. Entrants may have performed live professionally, but may not have commercial/professional recording credits. To clarify: Any previous recording for financial gain, or "albums in progress" will make you ineligible.
- Residents of North America, Europe, & Australia are eligible to enter.
- All registrations must be complete, and received by 12:00 pm EST on July 30, 2006.
- Your recording for the initial round must be submitted before the deadline to complete your registration.
- Qualification round recordings must meet a minimum standard of vocal ability to be accepted. (This is at the sole discretion of MusicalTheatreAudition.com.)
- There is no entry fee.
- Previous non-winning contestants may re-enter. An individual may compete in this competition a maximum of 3 times.
- Contestants of previous years who "dropped out" may not re-enter.
Contest Procedure:
- The competition will consist of several rounds. Each contestant must submit a new song for each round.
- Each round of competition will have a different Broadway theme. The song submitted in each round must meet the theme requirements. Entrants are encouraged to verify their song selection with the webmaster before submitting to avoid disqualification.
- The number of rounds of competition, and the theme of each round, will depend on the number of entrants and will be confirmed once registration has closed.
- A deadline will be posted for submissions for each round of competition. Contestants who do not meet a deadline will be disqualified and counted as an elimination for that round.
- It is the responsibility of the contestant to ensure that all required materials are received before their deadline.
- Contestants will have two weeks to select and record a song for each round of competition.
- At the end of each round, the judging panel will nominate two to six competitors for possible elimination (depending on the number of entrants). Meanwhile, our website visitors will vote for their favorite vocalists. The outcome of the voting will determine who will be eliminated in each round of competition. These decisions are final.
- In the case of a tie in voting results or a stalemate among the judges, the MusicalTheatreAudition.com Webmaster will make a final decision.
Recordings:
- Recordings must be submitted in mp3 format. Competitors are responsible for ensuring that the file is recorded and converted properly within the time allotted for each round.
- All songs must be sung in English.
- All recordings must be complete songs (not excerpts) at least 90 sec in length.
- Any songs from musicals that did not appear on Broadway must be pre-approved.
- All recordings must be new and recorded specifically for this contest. Recordings from past or future albums, whether commercial or otherwise, or recordings that have previously been broadcast or posted on another site will not be accepted.
- Recordings remain the property of the performers; however, performers must agree that the recordings will be posted ONLY on MusicalTheatreAudition.com for the duration of the competition.
- All recordings must include accompaniment. A cappella recordings will not be accepted. Accompaniment may be pre-recorded or live at the time of recording. Finding appropriate accompaniment is the responsibility of the competitor.
- Recording quality will not be judged, however, entrants must understand that it is difficult to judge the quality of a performance from a poor recording.
- A contestant may not use any song more than once in the competition. Multiple contestants may choose to record the same song, except in the final round.
- Recordings may not contain any other voices besides that of the competitor - this includes background vocals.
- The voice of the contestant may not be altered in any way on the recording - this includes doubling, echo and other effects.
- All recording submissions must be accompanied by a complete submission form.
- It is the contestant's responsiblity to read all the guidelines and to ensure that their recordings for each round are acceptable before submission. Submitting a recording that does not satisfy all requirements will result in disqualification. If you are unsure about whether a recording is appropriate, please consult the webmaster prior to submission. Once a recording is submitted for a given round it may not be updated or replaced.
Winner:
- There will be one winner.
- Males and Females will compete against each other, unless there are sufficient numbers to support separate contests. If the contest will be split by gender this will be announced when registration has closed.
- The winner will receive a Broadway Singer's prize package.
MTA reserves the right to revise these rules as the contest progresses. Any major changes will be sent to contestants via e-mail. In the case of disputes, the decision of the webmaster will be considered final.
