- "Her voice is so clear, and her interpretation of material is admirable. It's so hard to believe that she's only sixteen!"
"Kaitlyn's song choices and level of difficulty of the pieces reflect her amazing musical abiltiy. WOW, only 16! "
"She never chooses songs that are the 'easy' way out. Every time I've heard her sing... she's challenging herself. I think she has such an amazing voice and will make an awesome broadway star some day. "
"Kaitlyn Stobbe is amazing! Her voice is so crystal clear and lilting. I know she'll be on Broadway one day and I'll buy tickets to every show in which she sings."

MTA: What got you hooked on musical theatre?
Kaitlyn: When I was three, my parents saw Cats and bought the video. I was hooked. I sang the songs and
danced the dances! That was my first show and I couldn't get enough of
watching it. I wanted to "be" in the show.
MTA: How much later was it that you finally got onstage?
Kaitlyn: When I was 4, I was part of the chorus in The Best Christmas Pagent Ever. It is so embarrassing to go back and watch the video because I was SO loud! lol. I remember I wanted to be a lead SOOO bad, but I couldn't read! hahaha. Ever since then I have lived on the stage.
MTA: What is your favorite past performing experience?
Kaitlyn: My favorite production I've been in has to be Peter Pan. I was the
understudy for Peter and portrayed
Slightly, the head Lost Boy. I really delved into that character unlike
any other before. I was
surrounded by an awesome cast and we really came together to put on a
superb show. I learned how
to fly, sword fight and control Dorthy, our fog machine. It was awful
when we did the last show. It
was over. I wanted to be a boy forever and do the show every night!
MTA: Peter Pan is a difficult show, technically, because of the flying & sword fighting. How did your production handle these aspects?
Kaitlyn: It was AMAZING! We hired the same company for the flying that Cathy Rigby used. They came over for a week to teach us all the aspects of flying. It was hard though. I had many bruises and many crashes! After the training, our techies manned the ropes that controlled the fliers. That was scary sometimes!
We ordered real swords for Peter and Hook, and everybody brought swords from home or made wooden ones in our shop. One of the Lost Boys took fencing, and his instructor came out for a few days to teach us how to sword fight and choreograph the battle scenes! It was the most amazing experience!
MTA: What is your "dream role"?
Kaitlyn: Cunegonde in Candide. I love being playing comic roles. Plus, she has the best song of the show, "Glitter and Be Gay". Others include G(a)linda in Wicked, Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and Clara in
Light in the Piazza.
MTA: It sounds like you tend to lean towards the operettic.
Kaitlyn: I love opera! I want to double major in musical theatre and opera performance. I think they are very similar, although I know many people would disagree with me. For what is opera, but musical theatre sung classically. You still act and sing, just a different style!
MTA: Who would you really love to work with?
Kaitlyn: Kristin Chenoweth! She is my idol of Broadway! To be in a show with her would be amazing. She has
the most gorgeous voice I have ever heard and she is not afraid of showing her faith, which I really admire!
MTA: Have you seen her perform live?
Kaitlyn: I WISH! I have seen her on PBS before though, and I have the DVD of Candide when she was in it. To see her perform live would be so amazing! |
